Welcome to the June 2026 issue of our quarterly magazine, ParkWatch.

With a state election due this year, we take stock of how nature has fared across Labor’s three terms in government. Our state nature timeline maps out the highs – banning cattle grazing, ending native forest logging and creating the central west national parks – alongside the lows, including loophole logging and now cuts to key institutions and agencies.  Our ‘Isn’t it obvious?’ campaign highlights that Victorians expect their leaders to act, especially when the solutions are obvious!

This edition continues exploring the aftermath of January bushfires across our state; examines the lack of a plan for Western Port Bay in the State Budget; investigates the destruction of Snow Gums at Mt Macedon in April; and reports on the highly successful Grasslands Resurrection forum.

From the high country of the alps to the mallee wilderness, we bring you nature news from right across Victoria. Plus, we’ve got Krefft’s Gliders, Batwing Moths and Spotted Wobbegongs! For the first time, our cover star is an invertebrate: an Edwards’ Alpine Crane Fly photographed by Reiner Richter. Our land and marine invertebrates quiz celebrates this milestone.
