Did you know you live next door to something truly special?

That open patch of land near your home is part of a rare and ancient habitat, quietly thriving just beyond your doorstep. They were here long before cities, roads, or even humans.

Then, for over 60,000 years, native grasslands and grassy woodlands were cared for by First Nations peoples. In just over 200 years, most of these wonderlands were destroyed by development and farming.

Today only a small fraction of these precious landscapes remain. But you’re one of the lucky few who still live alongside them.

Whether you’re curious, concerned, or just want to know more, we invite you to reconnect with this overlooked treasure.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the project!

We’re hosting a series of relaxed, family-friendly gatherings in-person and online.

These are great opportunities to meet neighbours, explore the wonders of the grassland, and dream up ideas for its future.

  • Discover secret wildflowers and fascinating wildlife that call the grasslands home.
  • Hear stories and insights from local experts and community members.
  • Share your own thoughts, memories, and ideas for protecting this special place.
  • Connect with others who care about the nature next door.

Here’s what we’ve got planned:

  • Grassland Rambles – gentle walks through the grasslands to see what’s blooming and buzzing
  • Action Planning Workshops – hands-on sessions to help shape how we care for these unique places
  • Free school holiday events with hands on and exciting Grassland Guardian sessions for children of all ages.

We’ll keep updating the schedule as new events and ideas pop up—so stay tuned!
