Today and tomorrow our legal team and independent witnesses will speak at the Hearing for the Warburton Mountain Bike Destination Project Environment Effects Statement.

Over the course of two days, our team will expose a myriad of problems with the project. We’ll poke big holes in the argument for razing protected habitat for bike tracks.

Last week the committee heard evidence that building part of the bike track in the closed water catchment is essentially illegal. We also heard that for the tracks in the park to proceed, they’ll be subject to a lease from Parks Victoria.

This would put an unqualified body – Yarra Ranges Council – in charge of the scar they want to cut through the Yarra Ranges National Park. It’s akin to privatising a state-owned asset and will further undermine and fragment the proper management of our conservation estate.

We are yet to see how this is responded to, and we’ll be prosecuting our case until we get the answers the public deserve.

The hearing begins at 10am. You can watch the hearing online via Zoom using this link.

The inquiry hearing will not be recorded. We encourage you to check out the timetable and make sure you tune in live to the presentations you want to hear.
