According to prominent grassland ecologists this little-known grassland (or savannah according to some) is likely the best in the state. It’s full of orchids, lilies, featherheads, daisies, banksias, and a stunning array of tiny weird “inch flora” that used to be common across all grasslands. Join us for a day trip to look at all this and more!
The details:
It’s a bit of a drive for most, so why not car pool? We have restrictions on visitor numbers and car numbers due to the sensitive roadside habitat outside the reserve. We’ll get in touch to organise any car pooling if needed. We will enter via the main gate on Cape Clear-Rokewood Rd. When you get to the site, park in line with cars already there on the north side of the road only.
Dress for the weather – it can be hot, cold, windy, and rainy out there, all in one day sometimes. Wear closed shoes, there’ll be a footbath for Phytophthora cinnamomi so please clean shoes beforehand. Bear in mind there are no toilet facilities onsite (but nearby at the intersection in Cape Clear near the lighthouse). We’ll finish with lunch on the grass or under the sheoaks if the weather is fine so bring a picnic or cut lunch if you want to join in. Bring sunscreen and water!
This event is being run by the Grassy Plains Network.
