MEDIA RELEASE 25 November 2025 |

For the past year, developers have floated the idea of a rollercoaster-type luge down the north face of Arthurs Seat State Park. The idea is a real stinker!

VNPA has been working with the Mornington Peninsula community and Save our Seat for close to a year now to oppose this irresponsible development and the destructive impact it would have on the park.

Roller coasters are fun, but not in state parks that are there to be shared with local wildlife and allow ecosystems to function in an unhindered way. This is an obvious example of ‘development creep’ with the developers apparently not profiting enough from the existing chairlift and wanting to expand their operations to increase their bottom line. A clear case of private profit from a public asset.

Our parks are meant to be protected from inappropriate and incompatible development.  They and shared places where people can observe native wildlife and natural landscapes in a safe, free and accessible manner. Screaming down a mountain on ugly metal tracks, through cleared native bushland is none of these things.

There’s a time and place for roller coasters, and that’s NOT in the middle of an extinction crisis or in a state park set aside to protect wildlife and habitats.

Take action to protect Arthurs Seat

Victorians can let the government know how terrible this idea is and what a dangerous precedent it sets for our state and national parks.

Send your concerns to the Planning Minister, Sonia Kilkenny via [email protected] making sure to address it to Planning Minister Kilkenny.

For advice and inspiration, Save our Seat have put together a guide to help you through the process.
