The Wimmera’s grassy ecosystems – Grassy talk and GPN meeting

Tuesday, 3 September | 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

We’re looking west to the Wimmera with Dr Joshua Hodges to find out what makes the Wimmera grasslands unique.

Joshua is a fire and grassland ecologist. Joshua previously worked for the National Seed Bank, where their research focused on the role of fire in promoting seedling emergence in grasslands and grassy woodlands. After moving to Natimuk in 2023, Joshua committed to raising awareness of the Wimmera’s often-overlooked grassy ecosystems and the threats they face. Joshua is currently writing a book on this topic, complemented by their work for the CFA, where they manage the local district roadside burning program.

Joshua’s talk will be followed by a Grassy Plains Network meeting.

Feature photo of the Critically Endangered Wimmera Rice-flower, Pimelea Spinescens subsp. Pubiflora, only found in the Wimmera: by Joshua Hodges.

This event is being run by the Grassy Plains Network.
