How NextGen Nature came about

The NextGen Nature Advisory Group was established to share innovative ways to engage young adults in nature conservation.

Their journey began in 2022 at Cape Conran on Gunaikurnai Country with the ReefWatch and NatureWatch teams. This involved three days of citizen science, community outreach, and valuable workshops.

The group experienced the benefits of engaging youth in conservation and discusses what it might look like at a bigger scale.

This laid the groundwork for forming the advisory group.

The NextGen Nature Advisory Group

Coming from different backgrounds but with a shared passion for connecting people with nature, the advisory group is currently made up of a convenor and up to six young adult volunteers.

The Advisory Group meets monthly and aims to lead a program to inspire, mobilise and empower young Victorians to love and protect nature. We do this through upskilling, hands-on experiences, and fantastic events.
