Frogs in the Grass

In January 2011 the Victorian National Parks Association's NatureWatch program began monitoring populations of the nationally vulnerable Growling Grass Frog at the City of Whittlesea Quarry in Epping.

In Victoria the frog is classified as Endangered and listed under the state's Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988. Main threats to remnant populations of the Growling Grass Frog in the greater Melbourne area include habitat loss and degradation through urbanisation.

The quarry is an important site for this species within the Epping region.
