Petition to save VEAC

The Victorian Government has released plans for changes to conservation laws and while some of the proposals are positive, there is one major problem: they want to abolish a body called the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council (VEAC).

Suddenly future habitat protection is at risk. VEAC, and its predecessors, have been instrumental in the creation of Victoria's world class national parks and conservation reserves.

VEAC is an independent, science-based body that looks at the ecological value of habitats and advises the government on what to protect.

The VNPA is calling on the government to strengthen VEAC, with more power, more resources, and more protection to address the huge crisis facing Victoria's natural environment. Victoria needs VEAC.

Help keep Victoria's wild places safe by signing our online petition to save VEAC.

Please help!

Please support our campaign by collecting petition signatures calling on the State Government to strengthen VEAC, not to abolish it.

Our target is 10,000 names, which we plan to deliver to Premier John Brumby by World Environment Day, June 5 2010.

You can help by downloading and printing out our VEAC petition form, collecting 10 names for each form, and then returning them to the VNPA office by 1 June 2010.
