Great Victorian Fish Count 2011

Take part in the Great Victorian Fish Count,
3-18 December 2011
.

The Great Victorian Fish Count is an annual survey of Victoria's unique and colourful marine reef fish populations.

Last year, more than 400 volunteer divers from schools, community conservation groups and dive clubs took part in the event, and we expect similar numbers to suit up and take the plunge again in December this year.

By counting fish at the same time every year, we can collect data that will provide long-term information on:

  • Species lists at specific Victorian subtidal sites.
  • Species suites and their associated environments.
  • Species abundance.
  • Changes in species distributions over time.
  • Extensions of species ranges.

With pressures on the marine environment continuing to build, the Great Victorian Fish Count is invaluable to building knowledge, awareness, and understanding of changes occurring in the marine environment.
