Help protect habitats from Melbourne's urban sprawl

I am greatly concerned that urban expansion on Melbourne's fringes is threatening the habitat of species such as the Growling Grass Frog, Southern Brown Bandicoot, and one of Victoria's most damaged and threatened habitat types - grasslands of the Victorian Volcanic Plains.

Please protect all high conservation value grassland and grassy woodland sites, and viable habitat corridors for Southern Brown Bandicoot and Growling Grass Frog by:

  • Publicly committing to a clear plan to establish a network of urban conservation reserves for all high conservation value grassland and grassy woodland sites, and viable habitat corridors for the Southern Brown Bandicoot and Growling Grass Frog.
  • Immediately appointing an independent monitor to oversee the implementation of conservation and urban growth plans.
  • Ensuring the process involves proper community consultation and input.
  • Strengthening federal rules for protecting grasslands and other key habitats to emphasise the retention of high quality, species-rich grassland sites in manageable urban reserves, regardless of size.
  • Planning for people and nature. I support plans to conserve areas for threatened species, not just urban sprawl.
